Joe Monte Landscapes started in 2007. Before launching his own business, he worked in management at Wildwood Farm Nursery and remodeled houses in the Bay Area. In 2004, he received a degree in history from U.C. Berkeley. At Berkeley, he enjoyed courses in anthropology and geography. In particular, Joe was impressed with the development of Inca and Maya city-states in South America. The degree to which the two empires integrated their culture and built environment with water distribution systems, agriculture development, and ‘building’ orientation was quite dramatic.
His approach to landscape construction has evolved to include solutions to water and agricultural issues. Much of this work is related to the new ‘green’ movement. Joe is a member of the United States Green Building Council’s Emerging Green Builders group and follows new developments in the field closely. He sees the growing trend to minimize expansive lawns, hedged shrubs, and impervious pavings as a worthy goal. Less costly, lower maintenance, and less water intensive alternatives such as lush green groundcovers, drought tolerant flowering perennials that attract wildlife, and edible plants can compliment and enhance many settings visually and physically. A functional garden that seamlessly integrates the built environment and landscape is a realistic goal for many projects.
Joe Monte Landscapes is committed to addressing all of the client’s concerns in the design phase and communicating developments as the project moves forward.
“Joe Monte put in a flagstone patio for me. Joe understood exactly what needed to be done in order to create a patio that is beautiful and functional. His work was excellent. I would recommend him for any landscaping project.
